I never know if my parent really means it—they say ‘yes,’ then ‘no.’ I don’t know how to read their signals.

Navigating Change with Aging Parents

Change can be challenging for all of us—one moment we move forward, the next we feel stalled.

As an adult child, you want to support your aging parent, but the back-and-forth can leave you frustrated and emotionally drained.

In this class, you’ll gain insight into the “Stages of Change” and understand why your aging parents may fluctuate between embracing change and resisting it. More importantly, you’ll learn how to adjust your communication to match their stage, reducing stalled conversations and helping discussions move forward effectively.

Foster Empowered Change Through Effective Communication

It’s easy to fall into old conversation patterns, leaving everyone feeling unheard, frustrated, and stuck. That’s why I teach evidence-based communication tools designed to foster collaborative, respectful conversations about change.

We use Motivational Interviewing, a proven approach for guiding change, which I’ve adapted specifically for senior transitions. This method helps all parties feel engaged, empowered, and clear about the next steps to move forward.

Transform Challenging Conversations Into Connection

We often hesitate to have challenging conversations because we fear unfavorable outcomes—tension, resistance, or frustration for everyone involved.

That’s why I teach values-based conversations about change, grounded in the principles of Motivational Interviewing.

People are naturally motivated to live in alignment with their values. By incorporating values into these discussions, solutions become clearer, and decisions feel more authentic.

What was once a dreaded conversation can become one that creates connection, clarity, confidence, and meaningful change.

As adult children, we naturally want our aging parents to maintain their independence and make decisions for as long as possible. Yet sometimes, choosing to keep the status quo may not serve their best interests—or yours. Cultivating empowered change conversations that help seniors feel heard, understood, and supported is my specialty.

I’ve seen countless seniors move from simply surviving to truly thriving by making proactive, empowered decisions as they age. My goal is to help your parents experience the same sense of clarity and confidence.

Here’s to fostering connection within families and reducing tension as our loved ones navigate the aging process!
